When was the last time you looked up at the moon?

Sounds a pretty strange question but really when was the last time you looked at the moon? Not noticed it but really looked at it? looked at the texture, changes in how we see the colour and how do you feel when you look?

Reason for asking is because it seems to me that it is about stopping and looking around, taking a breath and appreciate the vastness around us.

Do we do this enough? Do we daydream and allow ourselves to drift off? No, here’s some blank space why not fill it with some more scrolling on the mobile etc?

People with ADHD are often described as being easily distracted and prone to daydreaming, I was when I was at school. I wonder if I was more curious about things around me or just not interested enough in the lessons, little space for a dopamine hit when learning about coastal erosion or plate tectonics!

Perhaps we all need to spend a bit more time looking at the bigger picture instead of getting lost in the minutiae- which isn’t always easy. It’s easy to feel anxiety and fixate on things that are immediate and niggling, almost a must for neurodivergent people.

If anyone figures out how do this and get into the moment, get into the here and now and get some perspective. Share your hacks!
