I just had a full body massage in a bid to try to loosen up tight muscles and bring some much needed relaxation to this busy mind. I’m having time out from work at the moment and I want to get back to a better place in myself soon.
Normally I will be mute throughout, close my eyes and chill but this time was different.
My masseuse was much younger than me and she talked about her busy mind and inability to sleep. We then used most of the time talking about our lives and how in her case she has struggled – to me she ticked the boxes for ADHD and I urged her to push her GP for a referral, Right to Choose if need be as I’m amateur at this but recognise a lot in her story.
Being a little out of touch with how this generation experiences neurodivergence it was illuminating to discover that schools and workplaces still have a way to go to support their pupils/employees and consider how to get the best out of them.
I listened and responded with understanding when I was told of years of bullying at school and a racing brain and boredom, putting off revision etc. feelings of being lazy and underperformance in exams etc.
So much of what was said completely resonated and it reminded me of how much there is a need for greater understanding and greater support for people whatever their age.
If what I can do with HYPERFOCUSED! is to raise awareness and do a little bit towards improving life for people who have or suspect they may have ADHD then it’s time well spent.
Please keep talking about ADHD, we’re not all a bit ADHD but we can have traits common with it. None of the signs of it are exclusive to people with ADHD but often they can be much more impairing.
Getting an assessment and potential diagnosis can help greatly with your view of yourself, recognition that support is needed etc and I highly recommend it.
