We know that when people realise that they have been living with ADHD that many immediately want to give back by helping others. ADHD coaching is one such way of doing this but how do you do this? What should you consider when deciding who to train with?
Our top tips for finding a coach –
- Check their accreditations/qualifications, commitment to continuing personal development. Anybody can call themselves a coach
- How do they coach people? Is it all online, in-person or hybrid?
- When can you book in? Is there flexibility?
- What is expected of you? Homework between sessions is common.
- Remember that your reason for attending is because of your own ADHD so be aware of how it impacts you and therefore which type of coaching would suit your preference
- What is the cost? Can you spread the cost over a period of months? Some coaches want blocks of sessions booked and paid up in advance
- Do they have lived experience of ADHD personally or in family, friends etc. In other words, how well do they understand challenges you face? (even though every person with ADHD is different)
- Check for testimonials – find out from people who have been coached how they found it and any hints and tips they may have. Linkedin may be a good place to find out more about how they come across with so many ADHD coaches using the platform
- Perhaps most importantly really think about what you want from ADHD coaching. It works well when it is driven by objectives that are measurable. More giving you the tools to tackle difficulties in your life rather than fixing them for you. Empowerment is key
